India’s SUV Market Set for Major Shake-Up as Tata, Nissan, and Skoda Prepare High-Profile Launches

India’s SUV market is set for a major shift with upcoming launches from Tata Motors, Nissan, and Skoda. The Tata Sierra EV debuts June 30 with dual battery options and AWD. Nissan Tekton arrives July 9 with hybrid powertrains, while Skoda Kylaq Sportline brings sporty styling during the festive season, intensifying competition across segments.

India’s sport utility vehicle segment is poised for a significant transformation as Tata Motors, Nissan, and Skoda gear up to introduce three distinct models targeting diverse customer segments, ranging from electric mobility enthusiasts to midsize SUV buyers and compact SUV performance seekers.

Tata Motors is set to revive its iconic Sierra nameplate in an all-new electric avatar, marking a major milestone in its EV portfolio expansion. The Sierra EV is scheduled for debut on June 30, positioning it above the Curvv EV and targeting consumers seeking a spacious and premium electric SUV experience. The upcoming model is expected to offer two battery pack options of 65 kWh and 75 kWh, along with both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations. The SUV is also anticipated to feature advanced connected technologies and Vehicle-to-Load capability, enhancing its practicality and modern utility appeal.

Nissan is preparing a strategic re-entry into the midsize SUV segment with its upcoming Tekton SUV, which is set for a global debut on July 9. The vehicle will be based on the next-generation Renault Duster platform but will feature a distinct Nissan design language inspired by the brand’s global SUV lineup. It is expected to be offered with turbocharged petrol engines as well as strong hybrid powertrains, placing it in direct competition with established rivals including Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The model represents a crucial step in Nissan’s efforts to rebuild and strengthen its presence in the Indian automotive market.

Skoda is also expanding its compact SUV range with the upcoming Kylaq Sportline edition, expected to arrive during the festive season. This variant will not introduce mechanical changes but will focus on cosmetic enhancements, including dark-themed exterior styling, distinctive alloy wheels, and sport-inspired interior elements. It will continue to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, offered with both manual and automatic transmission options.
